Job Description: Outdoor Education Instructor
Position Overview:
The Outdoor Education Instructor will be responsible for leading and coordinating outdoor education programs and activities. This role requires a strong passion for teaching, a comprehensive understanding of outdoor education principles, and the ability to create engaging learning experiences for students. The Outdoor Education Instructor will work closely with educational institutions, organizations, and outdoor education specialists to develop and implement effective outdoor education programs.
Responsibilities:
1. Develop and deliver outdoor education programs, ensuring alignment with curriculum objectives and educational standards.
2. Plan, organize, and conduct outdoor activities, including but not limited to hiking, camping, rock climbing, team-building exercises, and environmental conservation initiatives.
3. Deliver engaging and informative lessons on outdoor education topics, including environmental science, sustainability, wilderness survival, and adventure sports.
4. Instruct students on outdoor safety protocols, risk management, and emergency procedures.
5. Demonstrate and teach technical skills required for outdoor activities, such as navigation, knot tying, and equipment handling.
6. Foster a positive and inclusive learning environment, promoting teamwork, resilience, and personal growth.
7. Collaborate with school staff, administrators, and parents to ensure program objectives are effectively communicated and achieved.
8. Assess student performance and provide constructive feedback, both individually and within group settings.
9. Develop and maintain instructional materials, equipment, and resources required for outdoor education programs.
10. Stay updated on current trends and best practices in outdoor education, attending professional development workshops and conferences as required.
Qualifications:
1. Bachelor's degree in Education, Outdoor Recreation, Environmental Science, or a related field.
2. Proven experience as an Outdoor Education Instructor or a similar role.
3. Strong knowledge of outdoor education principles, environmental sustainability, and adventure sports.
4. Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively engage and instruct diverse student populations.
5. Demonstrated ability to plan and lead outdoor activities, ensuring the safety and well-being of participants.
6. Proficient in technical outdoor skills, including map reading, orienteering, and wilderness first aid.
7. Ability to adapt and modify instructional strategies to meet the needs of individual students and groups.
8. Excellent organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.
9. Current Wilderness First Responder (WFR) certification or equivalent is preferred.
10. Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends and evenings, to accommodate program schedules and events.
